Zambesi feature for Peny Lane

Photobucket

When two industry veterans Elisabeth and Neville Findlay got together and shared an un-breedable sense of avant-garde style mixed with bold simplicity what did they create? It was their very own lovechild ofcorse. Her name was Zambesi.

Now, with over 30 years on the runway and a cult-like following, Zambesi has grown into one of the world’s top fashion houses; producing line after line of breathtaking creation. Based in Auckland, the label now has its own flagship stores in New Zealand and Australia and stocks its collections in over fifty selected boutiques around the world. Respected for their strength of not succumbing to the trend, Zambesi’s head designers prefer to only build upon past collections and in turn remain faithful to their unique brand identity. Zambesi’s head menswear designer Dayne Johnson has described the collections as “clothes to wear every day, but not every day clothes.”

Argued as one of Zambesi’s best yet, their summer 09/10 collection was based upon the “opportunity to explore the concept of appearances and the complexities beneath the surface”. Sticking to their trade-mark ubiquitous black, they merely played with subdued palettes consisting of tonal variations and distorted fabrics.

The summer women’s wear collection is described by Creative Director Elizabeth Findlay as “cool, calm and collected” with simplicity, refinement and classic tailoring being the key. Black, white and grey feature prominently with the occasional injection of fiery red. Washed out linen also features strongly within the collection, adding a touch of relaxed attitude to the unmissbale anger found deep within the tailored lines.

Our favourite pieces? The double-breasted half-lined jackets made our hearts skip a beat. The digital patterned metallic pants are a must! And we definitely want to get our hands on one of those translucent dresses! Love!

Well guys, looks like you’ve done it again.

So thank you and happy 30th fucking birthday from all of us at Peny Lane
